California-based Hydro Systems plans to begin manufacturing bathtubs, sinks and shower pans out of this McDonough facility in a deal that could bring as many as 100 jobs to the community by the end of 2018.

A family-owned California maker of bathroom appliances is opening its first Georgia facility in Henry County and bringing with it 60 jobs.

Hydro Systems, which makes bathtubs, shower pans, and sinks, plans to open an east coast manufacturing plant in McDonough sometime in the middle of this year.

The facility will initially employ 60 people, but leaders hope to grow employment to about 100 workers by the end of 2018.

“Hydro Systems’ decision to locate its east coast manufacturing operation in Henry County is a huge success,” said David Gill, chairman of the Henry County Development Authority. “The Henry County Development Authority has consciously worked to attract more manufacturing companies to the county that will benefit from our outstanding workforce and strategic location near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and the Port of Savannah.

Hydro is opening the facility to reduce the delivery window for east coast customers, company leaders said. Instead of waiting three to four weeks for the company’s handmade products to arrive from California, east coast customers will soon be able to have orders filled in about a week through the McDonough plant.

“With over half of the United States population living east of the Mississippi we have been looking to expand our operations for the last couple years and finally found the right location,” Scott Steinhardt, president and owner of the 40-year-old company, said in a release.

“This new facility will allow us to reduce the lead time on all bathtub orders placed in the Eastern United States by weeks and save our customers money with reduced shipping costs,” he said.

Pat Wilson, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, said the state is a premier location for logistics infrastructure and accessibility.

“I am confident that Hydro Systems will have access to a skilled workforce to fill the available positions,” he said.
