The Georgia Board of Regents on Tuesday reviewed the University of Georgia’s $53.8 million plan to renovate one of its oldest dorms, Brumby Hall.
The plans consist of updating all living and bathroom spaces, as well as addressing federal Americans with Disabilities Act regulations, said Greg Trevor, the university’s spokesman. The enhancements will include community kitchens and more study space to encourage interaction and engagement, officials said.
UGA would solicit bids from companies interested in providing design services, Trevor said.
Funding for the project would come from a housing auxiliary surplus and reserve funds, according to documents included in Tuesday’s board agenda.
Brumby Hall, built in 1966, consists of 950 beds. The hall will have slightly fewer beds after the renovation, according to board agenda documents.
An earlier version of this article said the board approved the plan, but that was based on incorrect information from the University System of Georgia. The board is scheduled to vote on the plans at its November meeting.
