Morehouse College faculty, frustrated by their lack of input in important decisions, have taken the unusual step of adopting a vote of no confidence in Robert Davidson, the chairman of its Board of Trustees.

The faculty took the action during a meeting last week, said Ulrica Wilson, an associate professor of mathematics who made the motion.

“The vote was an opportunity to express our frustrations,” Wilson said in a telephone interview Tuesday with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We’re hoping it will get (Davidson and the board’s) attention.”

The professor said faculty have not heard from Davidson since the vote.

The board voted in January not to renew the contract of the college's president, John S. Wilson, when it expires in June. Student trustees and many faculty members felt they should have had more involvement in the decision about President Wilson and wants more say in other campus issues.

Efforts to contact Davidson were unsuccessful Tuesday.
