Metro schools open, on regular schedules Thursday

Metro Atlanta schools are operating on regular schedules after Tropical Storm Michael passed through Wednesday night, bringing rain and some wind.

The southern school districts were closest to the path of the storm’s center. They are not reporting problems..

Fulton, Clayton, Fayette and Henry counties were not in the path of those counties covered by Gov. Nathan Deal’s state of emergency, but were keeping an eye on the weather and possible flooding or loss of power.

The districts announced early Thursday they expect to be operating on normal schedules and that students should report to bus stops and schools at regular times.

Paulding and Cobb and the others further north also reported no problems and were reporting expected regular start times.

In Clayton County, the district will postpone middle school playoff football games until Oct. 16.

But, the Jonesboro and Riverdale high school volleyball tournament at McIntosh High School in Peachtree City will continue.

DeKalb school officials said they also are monitoring the storm, which made landfall along the coast this afternoon.
