It's business as usual for DeKalb County School District, which announced just atfer 7 a.m. that classes and administrative offices would be open on time Thursday morning.

The news came just before school was set to begin, and as Michael headed out of Georgia after killing at least one person and leaving more than 300,000 without power.

District officials participated in conference calls with National Weather Service experts Wednesday while anticipating the storm and any potential damage.

The storm swept through Georgia to the south of metro Atlanta, knocking down trees and utility lines and leaving hundreds of thousands of homes without power.
