Atlanta Board of Education incumbent Byron Amos, left,  and challenger Keisha Carey faced each other in a Dec. 5 runoff election. Carey requested a recount.

The unofficial results of a recount show incumbent Byron Amos with enough votes to retain his Atlanta school board seat.

Challenger Keisha Carey had requested a recount in the race for the District 2 seat, which represents central Atlanta. She trailed Amos by 72 votes, according to the official Fulton County vote tally from the Dec. 5 runoff.

In the recount, which is scheduled to be certified Saturday, both Amos and Carey lost one vote each, maintaining the 72-vote difference between the two candidates. Each lost one absentee by mail vote in the recount, according to the unofficial Fulton County results.
