A DeKalb County woman said she was scammed out of jewelry and money after two people pretended to be water department employees to get inside her home.

Lavonia Rodgers told Channel 2 Action News that a man and woman came to her Florence Street home in Tucker on Dec. 6 and said they needed to check her water pressure because of a frozen pipe in the neighborhood.

“They would’ve never got in the door if they hadn’t said they were from the water department,” she told the news station.

The woman ran the faucet in her kitchen, while Rodgers said the man rummaged through her things. She said her jewelry box was emptied and cash and several rings were stolen, Channel 2 reported.

“I’m just real shaky and trembling,” she told Channel 2.

After they left, Rodgers called DeKalb Watershed Management and 911, and realized she had been scammed.

Police have not announced any arrests, but they encouraged people to always ask for identification before letting workers into their home.
