Three women were pepper-sprayed and robbed at gunpoint during a home invasion in Covington last month, Newton County Sheriff’s Office officials confirmed Tuesday.

Authorities are now searching for two women in connection with the crime.

Deputies were called to the Helen Road home about 11:40 a.m. Aug. 30 about an alleged assault, Newton County Sheriff Sgt. Mike Cunningham said. A 64-year-old woman, her 42-year-old daughter and her daughter’s 42-year-old friend told police they were assaulted and robbed.

The daughter told police she heard a loud bang at the back door and went to see if anyone was there, Cunningham said. She saw two blonde-haired women, who pepper-sprayed her and went inside the home.

The mother told police she also heard the noise and saw the two suspects walk into the home with a gun, Cunningham said. One of the women pointed it at the mother and ordered her to stay in her bedroom.

Authorities said one of the suspects used a Taser on the daughter’s friend, waking her from her sleep.

The suspects stole cellphones before running from the home.

No other details were released.
