UPS driver carjacked while making deliveries in Cobb; 2 charged

This isn??€™t the first-time delivery drivers have been targeted this season.????

Two men were arrested after a UPS driver was carjacked while delivering packages Thursday night in Cobb County, police said.

The men forced the driver from the rental box truck with a gun in the 3000 block of Burnt Hickory Road near Marietta about 10:30 p.m., police Sgt. Wayne Delk said in a news release.

Officers soon found two men on foot in the parking lot of a nearby CVS and recovered the truck at an abandoned car wash nearby, Delk said. The men were arrested without incident.

Leonardo King, 23, of Rex, was charged with possessing a firearm and hijacking a motor vehicle, police said. Anthony Dwayne Singleton, 23, of Stockbridge, was charged with hijacking a motor vehicle.

The driver, who is from Woodstock, was not injured. All of the packages that were on the truck are accounted for, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“We’re very lucky that no one was injured and there was no violence other than the actual carjacking itself,” Delk told the news station at the scene.

It’s unclear if this incident is related to other incidents involving UPS and FedEx drivers in metro Atlanta.

UPS released this statement to Channel 2: “UPS drivers receive training on how to be aware of their surroundings and take appropriate action if they believe they are being followed or may be in danger.”
