The man who is charged in connection with a fight over a handicapped parking space that left another man on life support is now in custody in Barrow County.
Morris Ellis of suburban Birmingham, Ala., had been in custody in Jefferson County before he was extradited to Georgia on Tuesday, Barrow County sheriff’s Capt. Cory Almond said.
Ellis is charged with two counts of aggravated battery and two counts of battery, Almond said. His bond was set at $210,000 Wednesday.
Ellis allegedly fought with Danny Payne outside the Fatz Cafe in Winder on March 3.
Ellis couldn’t see the Paynes’ handicapped parking sticker, said Payne’s daughter, Sherri Fritsch. Ellis was aggravated when Payne and his wife took too long getting out of their car after he pulled in next to them.
During the fight, Payne fell backward and sustained a head injury, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. He has a traumatic brain injury and is expected to be on a ventilator for awhile.
