Dozens of law enforcement officers from Henry, Spalding and Clayton counties lined the streets near Piedmont Henry Hospital Wednesday afternoon to honor the wife and newborn son of slain police officer Chase Maddox.

Alex Maddox, the officer’s widow, and her baby were being released from the hospital. The baby boy, who weighed 6 pounds and 11 ounces and was 18½ inches long, was named Bodie Allen Maddox after his grandfather.

Officers and deputies from various agencies parked outside the hospital with their blue lights flashing to honor the Maddox family, and several drivers in the area pulled over and parked to pay their respects. The mother and baby were escorted home with a law enforcement procession.

“It’s not just the officers behind him,” Monte McCollum said. “It’s the whole community behind him.”

Locust Grove police Officer Chase Maddox, 26, was shot and killed Friday while assisting Henry deputies serving an arrest warrant. His widow delivered the couple's second son on Tuesday.
