As loved ones gathered to say their goodbyes to Tyrika Terrell, the man accused of killing her was being booked into the DeKalb County jail.
Services for Terrell were held Monday at New Love Missionary Baptist Church in East Point, according to a funeral announcement.
The 22-year-old United States Postal Service employee was killed a week ago as she was finishing her shift.
Authorities say her estranged boyfriend, Quantez D’Ante Tyre, showed up at Terrell’s job and fatally shot her, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.
“(I’m) relieved that he was caught because he was a threat to society,” Terrell’s mother, Eugenia Grant-Terrell, told Channel 2 Action News. “He is a coward.”
Terrell told 911 officials Tyre had threatened to kill her the week before her murder, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the AJC. She was waiting for police behind the Wesley Chapel Road post office when she was shot. The shooting was caught on video.
Tyre had been in the hospital since Friday after he injured himself during a two-hour standoff. DeKalb officials surrounded a Snapfinger Road home in Decatur, where Tyre was hiding, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Cynthia Williams said. Others were inside the home at the time.
Williams said once the others left Tyre by himself inside the home, he went to an upstairs room with a weapon as deputies attempted to negotiate his surrender.

By 5:30 p.m. Monday, nearly $15,000 had been raised for Terrell’s funeral through a GoFundMe page. The goal was $8,000.
“Words can’t express the gratitude and appreciation for the love and support shown by so many people,” Grant-Terrell wrote on the GoFundMe page. “T'kyrra and (the) family can't thank you enough.”
