Police investigate second shooting at SW Atlanta apartments in 2 months

Police are working to determine if a Wednesday night shooting at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex is connected to a triple shooting at the same complex last month.

A woman told Atlanta police she and her four children had to take cover Wednesday when someone opened fire on her ground-level apartment in the 300 block of Fairburn Road. There were at least 20 shots fired through a door and a window, Channel 2 Action News reported.

She told officers she was asleep in a bedroom around 6:10 p.m. when she heard the first shots, and she hurried to make sure her children, ages 5 to 14, were safe.

“There were no injuries reported as a result of the shooting and no other units appeared to have any damage,” police spokesman Officer Jarius Daugherty told AJC.com.

The single mother told Channel 2 that after last month’s shooting and the Wednesday night scare, she no longer feels safe living at the Providence at Cascade Apartments, where she has lived for more than a decade.

On June 12, three teenagers were injured when a dispute in a common area of the complex turned violent. A 19-year-old man was shot in the hip, a 14-year-old boy was shot in the lower back and a 15-year-old victim was shot in the arm and buttocks.

The victims were not identified by police, and their conditions remain unknown.

According to investigators, the shooting was the result of an ongoing conflict involving another resident at the complex.

It’s not known if the two shootings are related.

“Investigators will look into whether this (recent) shooting is connected to any other incidents in the area,” Daugherty said.

Atlanta police told Channel 2 the complex is on their radar and they are working with management to improve security.
