DNA helps police ID man wanted in multiple DeKalb home invasions

Corey Griffin was identified by police as the suspect police had tied to many DeKalb crimes and had previously sketched.

Investigators first tied him to multiple crimes across Stone Mountain and Clarkston. Now they believe they’ve identified him.

Corey Griffin, 48, was named as the man who allegedly broke into two Stone Mountain homes, invaded one Clarkston home and assaulted two DeKalb County women, Clarkston police told Channel 2 Action News.

Police had previously released sketches of the suspect in May with him wearing an "ATL" hat and a newsboy-style hat.

Police say they identified Griffin through DNA with assistance from the GBI. Not only did they tie him to all of those crimes, but he already had a warrant out for his arrest for a rape in DeKalb County, Channel 2 reported.

Police are still searching for him, and he is considered armed and dangerous.

“It's our top priority,” Clarkston police Sgt. Jason Elliot told the news station. “It should be everybody’s top priority.

Elliot said investigators don’t know if Griffin is still in the area, but as long as he is, “there is definitely a threat.”

He said that’s most evident by the brazenness of the attack in Clarkston on May 11, when one woman was sexually assaulted, and the May 19 home invasion in Stone Mountain, where police say the man beat a resident and spray-painted in his face.

“The fact that days later he was willing to commit another similar-type crime shows that he is not scared,” Elliot said. “He will continue if we do not stop him, catch him.”

Anyone who knows about Griffin’s whereabouts is asked to contact Clarkston police at 404-292-9465.
