Crystal Vega was shot in the head at a Floyd County home Friday night. Police confirmed Monday that she died of her injuries.

Authorities have identified a person of interest in a deadly Friday night shooting of a Floyd County woman.

Crystal Vega was taken to Floyd County Medical Center after she was shot in the head at a home on West 13th Street, according to the Rome News-Tribune.

Rome police confirmed Monday morning that Vega died of her injuries, and investigators are awaiting the results of a GBI autopsy before releasing further details.

Police are looking for her boyfriend, Nakotah Smith. They have not released Smith’s photo or his description.

Family members told Channel 2 Action News that Vega was a mother of five and Smith was her boyfriend. They said the shooting happened in front of two of the woman’s children.

“More information will be disseminated in the next few days,” Rome assistant police Chief Debbie Burnett told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Her sister, Tiffany Vega, told Channel 2 that Crystal gave birth 11 days ago and that the baby is in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit.

“Now we as a family, her struggle sisters and friends have to band together to help raise her children,” Tiffany Vega said on Facebook. “We love Crystal and she will never be forgotten and if you know her you knew she wouldn’t give up that easy. She would tell you to be strong and not give up.”

Anyone with information on Smith’s whereabouts or about the case is asked to contact the Rome Police Department at 706-238-5111.
