UPDATE: Victim ID’d in deadly shootout, crash at SW Atlanta gas station

A deadly shootout at a southwest Atlanta gas station ended in a crash overnight, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Atlanta police told the news station that two men were shot about 11:30 p.m. Monday in an exchange of gunfire outside a Martin Luther King Jr. Drive gas station. One got into a car and crashed into another vehicle on a nearby ramp to I-285, police said.

Officers came upon the crash scene on their way to investigate the shooting outside the Quick Mart gas station, Channel 2 reported. The man behind the wheel was dead. He was identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office as Ryan Pittman, 26, of Mableton.

The other driver was not injured, according to the news station.

Atlanta police Capt. LeAnne Browning said it all started with an argument at the gas pumps.

“The vehicle that was involved in that altercation sped away from that location, subsequently crashed on that on-ramp and the victim that was inside that vehicle is deceased,” she told Channel 2.

At the Quick Mart, officers found the second shooting victim. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. His condition was not known Tuesday.

Homicide investigators are now going through store surveillance footage to determine if any charges will be filed.
