The GBI is investigating a shooting involving police in East Point.

A 38-year-old man was shot and injured after exchanging gunfire early Sunday with East Point police, the GBI said.

Officers responded to a shots-fired call in the Luther Drive area and made contact with a man who was “suspected to be inebriated,” spokeswoman Nelly Miles said.

Officers left and were called back several times, for different reasons.

“After responding the last time,” Miles said, “the officers encountered a subject with a gun and at some point both the subject and officers discharged their firearms.”

The man, identified as Devin Harris, sustained non-life threatening gunshot wounds, according to the GBI. He is in stable condition at a hospital.

No officers were injured.

The GBI is investigating, which is standard in police shootings. It is the 38th such investigation in 2018.
