Man jailed after shootout with police

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reviewing what happened during a shootout with police officers in south Fulton County.

No one was hit in the gun battle, which occurred early Friday on Meadow Glen Parkway, interim Fairburn police Chief Vernal Sutherland told Channel 2 Action News. However, a man identified by police as Louberto B. Barbers was arrested on numerous charges.

Officers received a suspicious person call after a neighbor noticed someone walking in between houses, the television station reported. Two officers confronted the Barbers, who ran and started shooting at the officers, police said.

“Officers returned fire,” Sutherland said. “Neither the officers or the perpetrator was actually injured in the incident.”

Officers deployed their Tasers and arrested Barbers.

He was booked into the Fulton County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault on an officer, two counts of felony obstruction of an officer, and one count each of loitering/prowling, theft by receiving stolen property, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and giving false information to officers, Fairburn police Lt. Anthony Bazydlo said.
