Man found on railroad tracks was last seen at nearby gas station

Xavier Thicklin was last seen entering a car at a Chevron gas station in the 2100 block of Monroe Drive, Atlanta police said.

He was later found on Plasters Avenue — two minutes from the gas station — on railroad tracks in northeast Atlanta. Thicklin, 45, was shot at least once.

That was Monday morning. By Friday, authorities had few leads on who might have killed Thicklin.

“Investigators are looking for any information about that vehicle or its occupants,” Atlanta police Sgt. John Chafee said in a statement.

Railroad employees arriving at work found Thicklin on a dead-end road. Atlanta police Lt. Carven Tyus told Channel 2 Action News it’s an access road that runs parallel to I-85 in an isolated area used mainly by railroad employees.

Because of that, there are no surveillance cameras in the area.

Anyone with information is urged to call Atlanta police at 404-291-6163 or 404-546-4295 or CrimeStoppers at 404-577-8477. Tipsters can remain anonymous and are eligible for a $2,000 reward.
