Man accused in shooting death during DeKalb custody exchange surrenders

A man charged in the shooting death of his girlfriend’s former boyfriend during a child custody exchange has turned himself in, the DeKalb County sheriff’s office said Tuesday.

Charvez Ryals, 39, of Lithonia, allegedly shot Daniel Wise, 31, on Saturday during the exchange between Ryals’ girlfriend and Wise, identified as the children’s father, sheriff’s spokeswoman Cynthia Williams said.

Wise’s friend, 29-year-old Robbie Johnson, was also injured and was said to be in stable condition.

Ryals has been jailed on a charge of felony murder and three counts of aggravated assault, Williams said.

Two of Wise’s three children were at the shooting scene but none were injured, according to police.
