Two Kennesaw State University football players have been dismissed from the team amid their alleged involvement in an on-campus armed robbery, according to school officials.
One of the athletes, Akebren Ralls, is also accused of running an illegal gambling house, according to Cobb County jail records.
Ralls and teammate Jai’len Edwards were booked into the jail Thursday morning and face armed robbery charges. Edwards also faces a misdemeanor gambling charge; Ralls faces a misdemeanor maintaining a disorderly house charge.
They are accused of robbing someone at gunpoint about 4:30 a.m. Friday at the Austin Residence Complex, KSU spokeswoman Tammy Demel said in a statement. Demel said the parties involved were known to each other. Authorities are searching for others who may be connected to the robbery.
No one was injured in the incident.
Athletic Director Milton Overton dismissed Edwards, a sophomore from Greensboro, and Ralls, a senior from Forsyth, for violating the team’s code of conduct policy. Both were listed as defensive backs on the roster.
“We are deeply disappointed in the actions of these two young men,” Overton said in a statement. “We are one team and one KSU. As such, it is a privilege to compete in intercollegiate athletics at Kennesaw State and we expect our student-athletes to represent the University, alumni and supporters with the class, honor and integrity they deserve.”
