A police officer who suffered a brain injury when he was shot in the face last week has been moved to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta for rehabilitation.
Henry County Officer Michael Smith, 33, was transferred from Grady Memorial Hospital on Friday, Shepherd Center spokeswoman Jane Sanders said.
Smith sustained a brain injury Dec. 6 when he was injured by a gunshot wound to the face during an incident inside a McDonough dentist’s office.

Smith was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for evaluation, care and observation, according to Sanders. Soon, he will move into the hospital’s Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program, where he will begin therapy under the guidance of several specialists.
He’s the second officer from metro Atlanta to be admitted to Shepherd since September.
Covington police Officer Matt Cooper, 34, was moved to the center's Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program in September from Grady. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head in the line of duty Sept. 3.
