Ga. State student dragged to death by SUV while he was still on his moped

Nathan Stini was killed after an SUV dragged him while he was on his moped.

Willie Frank Rainey was arrested days after the fatal crash.

Rainey is out of jail on bond.

A Georgia State University student was killed last week after an SUV ran over him and dragged him several feet while he was on his moped.

Willie Frank Rainey, 34, of Austell, faces charges of second-degree homicide by vehicle and following too closely in the Jan. 29 crash that killed Nathan Stini, according to court records.

Arrest warrants allege Rainey struck the rear of Stini’s moped with his Nissan Armada and dragged him down Spring Valley Road in Marietta.

The 22-year-old and his moped were stuck under the SUV until they “became dislodged from underneath the vehicle further down the road before (the SUV) came to a stop,” according to the warrant.

Stini died a short time later at a nearby hospital.

Rainey, who is out of the Cobb County jail on a $50,000 bond, was arrested days after the fatal crash.

Stini’s family said Rainey was a careless driver, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“(This) shows he was just an aggressive, careless driver that continued for another 100 feet before he stopped,” Stini’s father, Nathan Agostini, said.

Stini’s family told Channel 2 he purchased a helmet for the moped a day before the crash and had been afraid to ride it.

“I miss him being around me,” Stini’s sister, Natalie Stini, said. “He had such a good heart, too. He was always out to help people.”

A GoFundMe account was created by Stini’s family to raise funds for funeral costs.

Gridlock Guy: Our city’s parking problems are a reflection of our traffic woes

Atlanta gets more flack than Roberta about how slow its traffic moves.
