Georgia State Patrol: Driver reversed into 7-year-old boy

A 7-year-old boy was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston after he was ran over by a pickup truck that was reversing, the Georgia State Patrol said.

David Clemens, 39, of Monroe, was in his 2015 Dodge Ram about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday when he was backing south on Birch Street in Porterdale and hit 7-year-old Payton Mosher, according to preliminary information from GSP.

Officials said Payton was running from a driveway at the time of the crash.

Clemens’ left tire hit Payton, GSP officials said, as he kept backing up. Clemens, who was in the area picking up his daughter, didn’t see the boy when he was backing up, GSP said.

“Birch Street is a narrow, dead end road with no physical markings on the roadway,” GSP said in a statement.

Payton was airlifted to the hospital. His condition was not released.

Authorities have not said if charges will be filed against Clemens.

No other details were released.
