A Hall County man died after his semi accidentally ran over him while he was performing maintenance, authorities said.

A Gainesville man was killed in an apparent accident Sunday after his semi rolled on top of him while he was fixing its brakes, authorities said.

Jose Parras, 47, was underneath the vehicle in a cul-de-sac in front of his home in the 7300 block of Berry Hill Drive when it rolled forward, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. There wasn’t a trailer attached to the vehicle, and no one was inside.

A witness told deputies Parras asked him for a tool to work on the brakes when the semi began to roll, the release said. Unable to stop the vehicle, he ran inside to call 911.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. Parras died at the scene, the release said.

The incident is under investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division of the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
