Fugitive who failed to register as sex offender caught at library

Investigators said he was chatting online with potential victims from the library computer.

Authorities have arrested a man who had been on the run since 2016 for failing to register as a sex offender in Cobb County, according to authorities.

Tyon Poindexter, 42, was arrested Friday at a Fulton County library, Channel 2 Action News reported. He was previously sentenced to two years in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender.

“Poindexter was utilizing the computers at the Fulton County library to contact potential victims on social media,” Cobb sheriff’s office spokesman Glenn Daniel said.

Poindexter was booked into the Atlanta City jail before he was transferred to Cobb County, according to jail records. He faces charges of anniversary registration failure and false information/sex offender registration.

He remains in jail without bond.

According to Cobb authorities, Poindexter also gave deputies a fake address, telling them he lived at a motel, arrest warrants show.

The details of Poindexter’s crimes were not released.
