A man who was shot and killed in front of his new home was trying to make the residence more secure for his family at the time of the deadly encounter, according to a Fulton County police incident report.

Soloman “Sol” Williams, 58, was changing the locks on the front door about 4:30 p.m. Monday when an armed man tried to barge into the Gossamer Street home, police said.

His wife and children were inside the residence, which is in Union City’s Oakley Township subdivision.

Louisa Williams told Channel 2 Action News she saw her husband struggle “to push the door, like somebody was pushing, forcing to come in. I’m like, ‘What is going on?’”

Then, she heard a loud boom.

“I say, ‘Oh my God. What’s that?’” Louisa Williams said. “I saw him slowly come down.”

She told police she ran to her husband and started chest compressions until fire and emergency management workers arrived on scene.

She watched him take his last breath.

"But that is not the story that defines him," the family said in a statement posted online. "Sol was a hardworking man, a loving father, a great husband and an amazing human being. He was our rock until he took his last breath."

Police are searching for a person of interest who was seen on surveillance video walking in the neighborhood before the shooting. Authorities released that person’s photo Wednesday morning.

“It is our belief that somebody in that subdivision knows exactly who this person is,” Fulton County police Lt. Roger Peace said.

The intruder left behind flip-flops that will be analyzed for DNA, according to Channel 2.

Anyone with information about the person of interest is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477 or Fulton police at 404-613-6600 or 404-613-9117.

Fulton County police are attempting to identity the person depicted in this photograph. This person has been identified as a person of interest in the homicide of Soloman Williams. (Credit: Fulton County Police Department)
