A woman is facing vehicular homicide and DUI charges after her vehicle hit and killed a pedestrian in southwest Atlanta early Sunday, police said.

Jamilia Aisha Clark, 43, of Atlanta, was arrested after the incident in the 100 block of Florida Avenue about 3:20 a.m., police spokesman John Chafee said.

According to investigators, a vehicle was traveling west on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive when the driver failed to negotiate a curve, left the road, hit a utility pole and then hit the pedestrian, who was on or near the sidewalk.

“Officers determined the driver of the vehicle appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and placed her under arrest,” Chaffee said.

Clark was also charged with failure to maintain lane and no proof of insurance, according to police. She was taken to the Fulton County jail.

The identity of the pedestrian, a man, was not released.
