A woman accused of killing her husband told police two different stories about what happened moments before the fatal shot, Dekalb County police said.
Cynthia Jones remains in the Dekalb County jail Thursday, a week after she police says she shot and killed husband Kenneth Jones.
Authorities found Kenneth Jones, 68, on the bedroom floor of his Lithonia home on Feb. 1, according to a police report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Underneath him was a pool of blood and a bullet shell casing.
Police said Cynthia Jones could be heard screaming: “Help my husband.”
A hysterical Jones, 55, tried going back into the bedroom as authorities took her away for questioning.
Once interviewed, police said Jones told them two different, but incoherent stories.
In one scenario, police said Cynthia Jones claimed: “I used my key to open the door and I heard him scream.”
She later told them she and Kenneth Jones were doing drugs in the home, according to the report. Authorities immediately ended the interview.
Jones does not mention shooting her husband or what led to him being shot in either account.
Warrants obtained by The AJC do not detail what occurred before the shooting, but allege Jones acted on with “malice aforethought” when pulling the trigger.
