Cops: Man tried to get 2 kids in his car at Georgia school bus stop

Police in Jefferson are asking the public to be on the lookout for a car and its driver after an incident near a school bus stop Tuesday.

A city school bus went to drop off two siblings off Jett Roberts Road, police in the northeast Georgia city said on Facebook. A gray, four-door car was near the stop, and an older, balding man with gray hair was driving.

“The male called out to the two children and attempted to get them to come get into his vehicle,” police said. “The male apparently even called them by their names.”

Police said the bus driver did not recognize the car and thought the situation was unusual. The children did not know the man.

The bus driver did not let the children off the bus and called their mother, who did not send anybody to pick up her children.

The man then drove away.

“We are advising the public to keep an eye out for any vehicle and driver that fit the description above,” police said, “especially if the vehicle is seen driving slowly through neighborhoods or parked near any school bus stop.”
