Cops: Man stole car — with 3-year-old, dog inside — from Coweta gas station

The child was eventually found safe

A car theft Sunday night became much more urgent when a Coweta County 911 operator found out a 3-year-old girl and her puppy were in the vehicle, authorities said.

Someone stole Sydni Anglin’s 2014 Volkswagen Beetle while she was walking into the Texaco at 30 Raymond Hill Road to pay for gas around 9:30 p.m., according to a Coweta County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

A witness told the deputies a young man wearing a green shirt and sagging jeans left the gas station, got into the Beetle and drove off, the report said. Authorities released surveillance footage from the gas station they said shows the kidnapping suspect and the theft.

The witness let the distressed Anglin get into her car so they could try to chase down the stolen VW, but they were unable to follow it, the report said.

Union City police later found the 3-year-old and puppy unharmed at a RaceTrac off Ga. 138, after an employee spotted the girl and called 911. The VW was found abandoned near Buffington Road about 1 a.m. Monday.

A search for the suspect continues. He was seen arriving at the Coweta County Texaco in a silver sedan.
