A 30-year-old driver, who died Saturday along with his 10-year-old son in a fiery crash with a tractor-trailer, had a suspended license, a stolen handgun, was on probation and had illegal drugs in the car, a Douglas County sheriff’s spokesman said Tuesday.

The crash at Thornton Road and Riverside Parkway, which followed a three-mile police chase, also injured three children in the car’s back seat, Sgt. Jesse Hambrick said at a news conference.

The driver of the 2006 Infiniti was identified as Billy Frazier of Atlanta, Hambrick said.

Channel 2 Action News reported that all of the children in the car were Frazier’s. The 10-year-old was identified as QueMontae Frazier.

The injured children were 6, 5 and 3 years old. They were taken to a hospital after being removed from the car by deputies, authorities said.

“It was a very, very, very bad accident,” Hambrick said.

A deputy pursued the Infiniti after he saw it going 69 mph in a 45-mph area, Hambrick said.

Had the deputy known there were children in the car, “he likely would have terminated the pursuit.” However, Hambrick said the chase was “within policy.”

The sheriff’s office said in a statement that Frazier had prescription medications, MDMA (Ecstasy), cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana in the vehicle.
