The man accused of fatally shooting a coworker right after they had lunch in downtown Buford allegedly turned the gun on another man who dined with them.
However, Jerome Daniel Colvin’s gun malfunctioned before he could fire at the other man, Gwinnett County police Det. Michael Poppe testified Thursday in a preliminary hearing.
Investigators still believe, though, that the victim, 25-year-old Allen Craig Willard Jr., was Colvin’s main target Nov. 20.
“Mr. Colvin admitted to shooting Allen and said it was all a part of his plan,” Poppe testified, according to Channel 2 Action News.

But police said Colvin didn’t talk much about the victim to police after the shooting outside the restaurant where they ate.
“There were things about circles and talking about stars aligning and it was pretty much stuff like that,” Poppe said. “Stuff that would not make sense to you or I.”
Colvin, 34, of Auburn, is charged with murder, felony murder and aggravated assault. He is being held in the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.
He and Willard, who was from Suwanee, worked at a local towing company.
