Cops: Atlanta police officer harassed, threatened ex-girlfriend

An Atlanta police officer is accused of stalking and threatening his ex-girlfriend, DeKalb County police said.

Jason Ricketts was arrested Tuesday morning on harassing phone call charges, DeKalb jail records show.

He showed up at his ex-girlfriend’s Lithonia home and began pounding on the door, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The woman, who was not identified, was inside the home with acquaintance BJ Herring at the time. The duo heard the banging sound, peeped out the window and spotted Ricketts’ car, police said.

Herring told Channel 2 he had just met the woman and that she only knew him by his nickname. It wasn’t until Ricketts ran a search on Herring’s license plate that the Atlanta officer called his ex and told her Herring’s real name, Channel 2 reported.

“I don’t even know anything about him,” Herring said. “He found out everything about me because he is a police officer.”

Atlanta police relieved Ricketts of his duties pending the outcome of the investigation, Channel 2 reported. He had been with the department since 2015.

DeKalb police told Channel 2 they are also investigating a text message Ricketts allegedly sent threatening to kidnap the woman.
