A Cherokee County man accused in a vehicle-stealing spree was indicted Wednesday on 25 criminal counts.

Prosecutors said the crimes spanned four weeks from July 20 until Aug. 13, when 25-year-old Jacob “Cole” Henson was found after a high-speed chase and an hours-long search through the woods in Waleska.

He was being held at gunpoint by a resident on Little Refuge Road when deputies finally caught up with him.

A Cherokee County grand jury charged Henson with 11 counts of theft by taking and two counts of theft by receiving in connection with the theft of five pickup trucks, four motorbikes, three ATVs and a Toyota Corolla. Several of the stolen vehicles ended up wrecked or abandoned.

Among a litany of other charges, Henson is charged with an Aug. 4 aggravated assault. Three men told prosecutors they tried to chase Henson down while he drove off in a stolen Chevrolet pickup carting a trailer with a stolen ATV. Henson allegedly brandished a sawed-off shotgun.

In another incident Aug. 1, prosecutors claim that Henson drove away from a pursuing deputy and put his passenger at risk. He is accused of driving recklessly on wet roads, “stopping only briefly for (the passenger) to exit the vehicle, but instead knocking (her) to the ground,” the grand jury charged.

Seven of the charges are related to his Aug. 13 arrest, including breaking into a Little Refuge Road home, stealing a motorbike and riding that motorbike without the proper protective headgear.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court on Dec. 12.
