The CEO of an international energy regulatory authority was arrested Friday in Gwinnett County on a domestic violence charge, police said.

Gerald Cauley, of a Duluth address, was released on bond from the Gwinnett jail Friday afternoon, a spokeswoman said. He’s charged with battery/family violence, a misdemeanor.

Cauley, 64, heads up Atlanta-based North American Electric Reliability Corporation.

The mission of not-for-profit NERC is to “assure the reliability and security of the bulk power system in North America,” according to website information.

Cauley is on a leave of absence “until further notice,” the company said in a news release.
