A California man wanted on drug charges was arrested after authorities found 67 kilos of cocaine in his car on I-85 in Coweta County, according to a police report.

Carlos Miguel Montelongo-Guzman, 32, remains in jail without bond on charges of trafficking cocaine, speeding and following too closely, the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office said.

A Georgia State Patrol trooper pulled over Montelongo-Guzman for the traffic violations when he discovered he was wanted in California on drug charges, according to the report. The trooper tried talking to Montelongo-Guzman to confirm the warrant and asked for consent to search his car, but the man refused.

Another trooper was called to the scene with a narcotics police dog that conducted an open-air search of the car, the report stated. The dog gave a “positive alert,” giving the troopers probable cause to search the vehicle.

Three large bags containing cocaine were found inside the car, the report said. The cocaine was submitted to the GBI Crime Lab for testing.

Montelongo-Guzman was arrested and booked into the Coweta County jail.

No other details were released.
