Man still at large after weekend SWAT standoff in DeKalb

A SWAT situation in Stone Mountain ended early Saturday.

Days after police say a man triggered a SWAT standoff after barricading himself in a Stone Mountain house with his three children, authorities are still searching for him.

Anthony Maddox, 37, has a warrant out for his arrest on a charge of aggravated stalking, DeKalb police spokesman Sgt. J.D. Spencer said Monday.

The SWAT situation ended early Saturday after about 13 hours, when the SWAT team got in the house, but Maddox was not inside, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The children, ages 17, 12 and 3, were rescued, Channel 2 reported.

About 5 p.m. Friday, DeKalb County police received a call about a domestic disturbance in the Water’s Edge subdivision, Channel 2 reported. After the man barricaded himself, SWAT officers, negotiators, firefighters and emergency medical technicians were called to the scene.

Two pediatric ambulances from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta also arrived on scene about 10:30 p.m., Channel 2 reported.

Neighbors who live off Wood Hollow Way weren’t allowed into their homes, and a MARTA bus was used as a warming station for those who were displaced, the news station reported.

“Any time we have a response like this, we are concerned for not only police personnel but as far as the safety of DeKalb citizens as well,” police Lt. Anthony Wills told Channel 2.
