Student assaulted with knife at Atlanta’s Douglass High, official says

Atlanta Public Schools communications director Ian Smith said a fight occurred between two students, which led to the attack.

A student was assaulted with a knife Friday morning at Douglass High School in northwest Atlanta, a district spokesman said.

"Atlanta Public Schools can confirm that an altercation occurred between two students at Douglass High School this morning and one student was assaulted with a knife,” district spokesman Ian Smith told AJC.com in a statement.

The student was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

“The victim ... was alert and conscious at the time of transport,” Smith said.

The district stopped short of calling the incident a stabbing.

The incident happened outside a girls’ bathroom, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The suspect, who has not been identified, has been detained and will face charges, Smith said.

“No other students or staff were harmed during this incident,” he said.
