‘Little bit of a twist’: 2 men shoot each other at Marietta hotel

Police are on the scene of a shooting at a hotel on Delk Road in Marietta.

Two men were injured when they shot at each other inside a hotel room in Marietta, police said Wednesday.

The incident happened just before 12:15 p.m. at a Rodeway Inn and Suites in the 2300 block of Delk Road, Marietta police Officer Jared Rakestraw said.

“The confrontation started inside a hotel room and then continued into the parking lot in front of building 300 where both men exchanged gunfire,” Marietta police spokesman Chuck McPhilamy said.

Glorius Mitchell told Channel 2 Action News she received a call that her brother was shot in the face.

A second man was shot in the leg and both were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Three handguns were recovered from the area.

Witness Andre Fleetwood told Channel 2 he was near a McDonald’s when he heard four shots fired. The man shot in the leg was shot first, Fleetwood said.

“When we first responded, in an incident like this our first thought was that there's a third party and we have two victims,” McPhilamy said. “It was a little bit of a twist to us when we arrived and realized they shot each other.”

The men were later detained at the hospital, where they are both in stable condition, McPhilamy said. Their names have not been released.

“It's unusual for this hotel,” McPhilamy told Channel 2. “We don't get a lot of activity like that here."

Police are interviewing witnesses, authorities said.
