2 arrested in 17-year-old’s fatal shooting; ‘ongoing dispute’ likely motive

Union City Police said they believe the teenagers had an ongoing dispute.

A second man was arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 17-year-old in Union City, police said.

Tre Graham, 18, was taken into custody Tuesday in Chevelle Thompson’s killing, police said. He faces charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to Fulton County jail records.

He waived his first court appearance Wednesday and  remains in jail without bond. His next court date is May 1.

“While the motive for this tragic event appears to be an ongoing dispute,” Union City police said in a statement, “investigators are working to determine if other actors played a role in Thompson’s death.”

Officers were dispatched to the 5700 block of Rock Road about 3:50 p.m. Monday, Officer Jerald January said.

According to Channel 2 Action News, Thompson was shot twice as he walked to a convenience store at the corner of High Point Road and Roosevelt Highway. Someone picked up Thompson and took him back to the neighborhood to get help, Channel 2 reported.

Neighbors tried to apply pressure to the teen’s wounds until paramedics arrived, but Thompson did not make it.

Turner was arrested hours after the shooting, police said. He is being held at the Fulton County Jail on charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Turner waived his first appearance hearing Tuesday. His next scheduled court date is May 1.

Since Saturday, two teens have been gunned down in metro Atlanta.

Nicholas Glasco, 18, was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in the 500 block of Old Friar Tuck Road near Stone Mountain. Dean Dunkley, 18, was charged with murder, DeKalb County police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell said.

Glasco was weeks away from his high school graduation, family members said.
