Carl Stroud is accused of jumping out of his moving pickup truck during a police chase.

An accused shoplifter who police say led them on a dangerous chase in Smyrna was denied bond Friday by a judge who called him a “danger to the community,” Channel 2 Action News reported.

In police dashcam video from July, Carl Stroud can allegedly be seen jumping out of his pickup truck on South Cobb Drive but leaving the vehicle in drive, causing it to continue for another quarter mile and cross into oncoming traffic.

Before that alleged chase, Stroud is accused of stealing more than $200 of Bud Light, steaks and hot dogs from a nearby Kroger, Channel 2 reported.

Stroud was arrested by Smyrna police in nearby woods, and police said two other drivers involved in wrecks caused by him were not injured.

“I intend to hold your client without bond, making a finding that he poses a danger to the community,” Judge Gerald Moore said in court.

Channel 2 reported this wasn’t the first time Stroud has been accused of leaving the scene of an accident.

He faces 12 charges, including three felonies for hit-and-run and fleeing a police officer, according to Cobb County Jail records.
