Back-to-back fires prompt investigation

After two fires at a DeKalb County apartment complex, authorities are trying to figure out if someone is setting them.

Someone set a patio chair on fire Dec. 18, then lit the same chair again 10 days later, resident Stephen Roberts told Channel 2 Action News.

The incidents happened at the Ashford Druid Hills complex on Druid Valley Drive.

“What if something happened and the whole building went up?” Roberts asked. “(What if) my neighbor's or my apartment completely caught fire?"

Home surveillance video appears to show a man holding a lit cigarette in the area where the chair burned, the station reported.

"He sees the camera, he gets spooked and walks away," Roberts said.

DeKalb County Fire Rescue has assigned an investigator to the case, Channel 2 reported.

"We don't want it to get out of hand,” Roberts said.

“We don't want to be thinking about it every time (we) leave the house. What am I going to come home to and will it be worse?"
