Avid hiker missing in Cobb; cops find his car with keys in cup holder

The car of a Cobb County man who has been missing for almost a week was found with the keys sitting in a cup holder, according to Channel 2 Action News.

David Blake was last seen Wednesday night by his mother, Neill Blake.

“He said, ‘I love ya, Mom. See ya later,’” she told Channel 2.

Authorities found the 25-year-old Marietta man’s car in an overflow parking lot on Old Highway 41, Channel 2 reported. A bag that David Blake carried when he went on long hikes was also inside.

“If he were doing that he would have taken some of that gear,” Neill Blake told Channel 2, “and his apartment — all his camping gear is all still there.”

A Harrison High School graduate, David Blake was an avid hiker, so family assumed he walked a trail in the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.

But a search team didn’t find him.

Authorities said Blake’s phone was last used to send text messages early Thursday and that he never showed up to work and didn’t call in, Channel 2 reported. There has been no activity on his bank cards or credit cards.

“Please be on the lookout for him,” Neill Blake said. “My concern is he's hurt up there, on the mountain somewhere, and we need to find him.”
