Four people associated with a church day care in southwest Atlanta were arrested after a 4-year-old boy was left in a hot van, Channel 2 Action News reported.

A neighbor found the boy in the Evelyn Redmond Christian Academy van July 2 after she heard someone honking the horn, police said in the incident report. She thought it might have been the driver trying to get someone’s attention.

But she heard someone say there was someone in the van. When she checked it out, she found that the boy was “shaking, crying, and with his shoes in his hands,” according to the report.

Police said the engine was off, the windows were closed, and he had been in the van for up to 45 minutes.

When she took the boy back to the workers, “the day care staff did not seek the child any medical attention once located,” police said.

The responding officer called Grady Memorial Hospital to treat the boy.

The woman who drove the van last, Pamela Bryant, was arrested and charged with reckless conduct. Three other women, Starshemoha Baty, Ashley Jordan and Shanan Shealey, have since been arrested, according to Channel 2.

The Rev. P.L. Redmond Jr., who runs the day care, did not comment to the news station.

The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning is investigating, Channel 2 reported.
