After targeting wrong store, burglars smash into GameStop

Police say the burglars initially hit the wrong store.

Burglars who targeted a Clayton County business needed two efforts to hit their mark.

Police found a big hole had been smashed into the rear of a computer repair business on Mount Zion Road early Monday, according to Channel 2 Action News.

However, the thieves apparently realized they were off, so they smashed into the Game Stop next door, police said.

“They used a sledgehammer to break through the cinder block,” Morrow police Chief James Callaway said.

Responding officers found 18-year-old Cedrika Webster loading merchandise into a car. She drove away from the scene but crashed and was arrested.

Police said they found bolt cutters and stolen merchandise in the back seat.

“PlayStation 4s, game box, different gaming systems, controllers and things like that,” Callaway said of the goods that police found.

Two other people escaped, but investigators have a good idea who they are. Authorities also have surveillance video from the scene.

A customer said the burglary was too much trouble over gaming equipment.

“It’s not worth it,” Delonte Lesan said. “At the end of the day, everyone else will learn it’s not worth it.”
