The structure housed 9,000 hens.

A structure housing thousands of chickens in Hall County went up in flames Tuesday night, officials said.

About 9,000 egg-laying hens lived at the house, and “approximately half of the chickens died as a result of this fire,” Hall County Fire Services Capt. Zachary Brackett said Friday.

About 30 percent of the 500-foot chicken house in the 4000 block of Cedar Creek Road was on fire when crews arrived about 8 p.m.

No people were reported injured in the blaze, Brackett said.

“The cause has been determined to be accidental in nature from an electrical source,” Brackett said Friday. “The exact cause is still under investigation.”
