Georgia Tech opened an investigation Friday into accusations that its men's basketball coach sexually assaulted an Arizona woman.

After refusing to comment on allegations against second-year coach Josh Pastner, Tech released a statement saying it will hire an “outside, independent” investigator to look into the matter. “We expect every member of our community to practice the highest ethical principles and standards of conduct,” the statement said.

Pastner denied that he assaulted 45-year-old Jennifer Pendley, the girlfriend of a now-estranged friend of the coach's. She alleged in court papers filed Thursday that Pastner assaulted or harassed her more than a dozen times in 2016.
