Police: 17-year-old allegedly attacks teen, tells him he got ‘punked’

The victim told police he went to the park to meet a girl he'd been talking to online.

A teenage boy thought he was meeting a girl but was instead attacked and robbed. According to police, the girl in question was the suspect’s girlfriend.

Sandy Springs police arrested Miguel Mayo, 17, on charges of aggravated assault, armed robbery, possession of firearm or knife during commission of a felony and willful obstruction of law enforcement, according to the incident report obtained by Channel 2 Action News.

The police identified Mayo as the suspect when he called the victim and referred to the incident, telling the alleged victim he got “punked” that night, the report said.

Mayo’s photo was in the system from an arrest a few weeks prior, which allowed police to match him to the descriptions of the assailant given by the victim and officers called to the scene, the report said.

In early June, the alleged victim, a teenage boy from Lawerenceville, planned to meet a girl he had been talking to on Snapchat, the report said. However, when he reached her building, he was attacked from behind by a man with a knife.

In the ensuing struggle, the suspect stole a phone, a gold chain and a shoe belonging to him, the report said.

Mayo is currently in the Alpharetta Jail.
