Two men allegedly stealing a man’s mail in Johns Creek were spotted by the homeowner and quickly apprehended by police, who believe they were trying to use his identity to order credit cards.
As Louis Schwartz worked from his home in early June, he saw a Lexus pull up to his mailbox. He told police he saw two men removing his mail. Schwartz opened his door and ran after them while calling police, Channel 2 Action News reported.
A Johns Creek officer in the neighborhood saw the car and followed it. At first, the men ignored the officer, but Zandre Sydney Small and Mark Anthony Brown were eventually pulled over, police said.
According to police, a search of the car revealed Schwartz’s mail and some marijuana. They also found a fake ID with Small’s picture but Schwartz’s name and address.
Police believe Small and Brown stole the victim’s information earlier and had to return to steal more mail so they could pick up what they had ordered, such as credit cards.
They are facing theft by taking charges, and the U.S. Postal inspector has joined the case as well for the possibility of federal charges.
Police are looking into whether the men stole mail from more people, Channel 2 reported.
Small, of Lithonia, and Brown, of Snellville, were released from custody the day after their arrests on $2,000 bonds, according to Fulton County jail records.
